"I am so grateful to Christa Brown for taking the time to visit my Theatre Education students at Emerson College over the years. The conversations with Christa enabled students to deepen their understanding of documentary theatre and community-engaged arts by introducing them to the vital work that Free Soil Arts Collective is doing to support, elevate, and celebrate BIPOC artists in Lowell. From the logistics of founding a community based arts organization, to the creative processes that she engages in with BIPOC artists in Lowell, to the critical role that connection and creative ecosystems play in how we make art and engage in social change, Christa's visit enabled students to learn about the far reaching power of local arts movements and the potential we each have to cultivate celebration and change within our communities. Her wealth of knowledge and experience, and her passion for theatre, equity, and community-centered celebrations of voices of color, truly inspired my students to ask big questions and imagine what might be possible in their own schools and communities. I am immensely grateful for the gift of time spent with Christa."
